Panasonic Electric Works Europe AG is the European headquarters of Matsushita Electric Works Ltd. (Japan), one of the biggest electric companies in the world.

Image of the P400 system The main objective at Panasonic Electric Works Europe AG was to complement the existing M series of image checkers based on dedicated hardware by a new inspection system called PC-Imagechecker P400. In cooperation with MVTec Software GmbH, it was designed as an open system which is flexible enough to cover a broad range of different machine vision tasks running on standard hardware in real-time. This is why Panasonic Electric Works Europe AG decided to implement the image processing part of the PC-Imagechecker P400 system by using MVTec HALCON.

Mr. Hiller, manager of the sensor and image recognition department, reflects on the positve cooperation with MVTec: "One of our major goals was to come up with a high performance and flexible system that can easily be adapted to new demands in the future. HALCON proved to be an excellent basis for such a product. We plan to maintain the strategic partnership with MVTec to continuously improve the PC-Imagechecker P400 system."

PC-Imagechecker P400 Project

The PC-Imagechecker P400 project started in February, 1996. In 1997, MVTec joined the project to provide sophisticated machine vision software covering areas such as image preprocessing, edge detection, feature extraction, and subpixel measurement. After several months of testing, the system is now ready for shipping. The first units have been delivered at the end of 1997. The response from the European subsidaries of Matsushita was definitely positive.
