HALCON's shape-based matching
  • Already included since former HALCON versions:
    - Highest speed
    - Highest accuracy
    - Invariant to translation, rotation, scaling
    - Invariant to occlusion, clutter, ...

  • Improvements of HALCON 7.0:
    - Fast model generation (typically less than 50ms)
    - Improved automatic parameter estimation
    - Parameter estimation without creating a model
    - Contour and reference point of shape model stored on disc
    - Adaptable selection of model points by
      > hysteresis threshold
      > edge size

  • Example of improved model selection based on the new hysteresis threshold:

Problem: A simple threshold fails to extract the correct model points. Solution: Combining the new hysteresis threshold with edge selection based on size results in a perfect model.
