Edge Direction Preserving Smoothing

  • Simple smoothing destroys the local contrast along edges
  • One of the reasons is that the filters ignore the local orientation of edges
  • HALCON 7.1 offers two new filters that apply the smoothing only in the direction of the edge
  • Therefore, the edges are being preserved while noise is being removed
