Subpixel Gray Value Morphology

  • Classical gray value morphology is limited to pixel precision
  • Therefore, the objects can be dilated or eroded by a multiple of one pixel
  • This makes it difficult, e.g., to extract defects that have an extent of only one pixel
  • HALCON 7.1 allows to dilate, erode, open, and close by any fraction
  • This offers new opportunities to various application areas, such as
    • Optical character recognition
    • Optical character verification
    • Print inspection

application examples
:: Subpixel morphology allows to carefully modify the extend of objects
   - modification of the stroke width for OCR training
   - a dilation with a radius of 1 is already too much in many cases
