• HALCON has offered the watershed segmentation for a long time
• This is a widely used method for blob analysis
• HALCON 7.1 makes it possible to merge neighboring basins if the contrast difference is low
• This allows to segment regions even under noisy conditions
• Moreover, the application of noise reduction filters can be omitted, which results in a more accurate extraction of the shapes
