MVTec Software GmbH wins Best Paper Award at QCAV '99

From May 18 to 21 the fifth International Conference on Quality Control by Artificial Vision (QCAV'99) was held at Trois-Rivieres, Quebec (Canada). Quality control by artificial vision gains more and more interest in today's industry. Keeping the quality of products is one of the most important issues in production lines. Artificial vision systems have been applied for different tasks in quality control. About 130 participants from Europe, Canada, USA and Japan presented the newest research and development directions for quality control by artificial vision. The contribution of MVTec was selected for the best paper award. The article of MVTec entitled "Algorithms and Evaluation of a high Precison Tool Measurement System" describes the complete development of a machine for the high precision measurement of cutting tools. All components of the system were analyzed. The image processing was based on HALCON, demonstrating how an efficient and precise measurement system can be implemented. Starting from the camera calibration to the subpixel precise edge detection and the contour segmentation, all HALCON operators were described and discussed. The jury argued that MVTec's contribution shows how a high accuracy about 1 µm, i.e. better than 1/10th of a pixel, can be reliable achieved and decided to select it as one of two best paper awards.
