Updating MERLIC

To update your MERLIC version on Windows, you have to use the MVTec Software Manager (SOM) for the installation. However, you can first check if a new MERLIC version is available in the MERLIC Creator as described below.

Checking for Available Updates

On Windows systems, MERLIC shows a dialog upon startup that notifies the user when a new update is available. If an update is available, the notification dialog will remind you of the update upon every startup until you have updated your MERLIC version.

In case you have disabled the notification dialog, you can check in the MERLIC Creator if a new MERLIC version is available: open the "Help" menu entry and click on "Check for Updates...".

Updating to a New Major or Minor Version

Updating a MERLIC version to a new major or minor version, for example, updating MERLIC 5.6.0 to 5.7.0, is done by performing a regular MERLIC installation of the new version as described in the topic Installing MERLIC Under Windows and Installing MERLIC Under Linux, respectively.

The new version will be installed beside the existing MERLIC installation. On Windows, the MVApp files will be associated automatically to the newly installed MERLIC version. In addition, the Windows start menu entries will also be associated to the new MERLIC version.

If you don't require the previous MERLIC installation anymore, you can uninstall it as described in the topic Uninstalling MERLIC.

Updating to a New Maintenance Version

If you want to update your MERLIC version to a new maintenance release, for example, updating MERLIC 5.6.1 to 5.6.2, you can modify your existing installation as follows:

  1. Start the MVTec Software Manager (SOM).
  2. Open the page "INSTALLED". If your MERLIC version can be updated to a new maintenance version, the following icon is displayed for your installation:
  3. Click on the menu icon of the respective MERLIC installation and select "Manage Packages".
  4. Select the new MERLIC version from the drop-down menu and click on "APPLY" to start the installation of the new MERLIC version.

SOM also detects MVTec products that have been installed by other means, e.g., a MERLIC 5.0 version that has been installed via the previous offline installer. However, these installations cannot be updated or uninstalled via SOM.

On Linux systems, updating to a new maintenance version is done by simply installing the new version as described in Installing MERLIC Under Linux.
