Starting the MERLIC Frontend
The MERLIC Frontend can be started in different ways and with different connections. It can connect to either a MERLIC Creator instance or to a MERLIC RTE instance.
For MVApp Development
While implementing a MERLIC Vision App (MVApp) and the Frontend user interface, you can start the MERLIC Frontend directly from the Frontend Designer or MERLIC Creator. The MERLIC Frontend is automatically connected to the respective instance of MERLIC Creator. Therefore, it is possible to control the application and apply modifications directly in the MERLIC Frontend. The connected MERLIC Creator and Frontend Designer are locked while the MERLIC Frontend is open.
For Productive Use
For productive use, the MERLIC Frontend is started independently and can be connected to an instance of MERLIC RTE, the runtime environment of MERLIC. In this case, the Frontend operator can select the MERLIC RTE instance to which the MERLIC Frontend should connect to. This can be a MERLIC RTE running on the local system or an MERLIC RTE instance running on a remote system.
When the MERLIC Frontend is connected to a MERLIC RTE instance, it is locked for any user interactions and modifications. The control is given to the communication device that is used for MERLIC RTE, and the MERLIC Frontend can only be used to monitor the state and execution of the application. However, it is still possible to allow users to take control in the MERLIC Frontend. For more information, see Write Access in the Frontend.
Multiple MERLIC Frontend Instances
It is also possible to start multiple instances of the MERLIC Frontend that are connected to the same MERLIC server. However, you can only interact with one instance at a time.
