Setting Up the Process Integration
To use MERLIC RTE, you first have to set up various independent resources such as the MERLIC Vision App (MVApp), MERLIC recipe files A MERLIC recipe file is a crucial part for the MERLIC process integration. It is a separate file (with file ending .mrcp) that defines which MERLIC Vision App is loaded for the process integration. It also defines how the MVApp is parametrized because it contains a set of pre-defined input values for selected tool parameters. You can create multiple recipe files with individual sets of input values for one and the same MVApp. This enables you to reuse an MVApp with different parameter settings for various scenarios of your application. You can also use a recipe file to load an MVApp for a completely different image processing task., and the communication device. Some of these setup steps need to be done before starting MERLIC RTE. This includes the setup of the MVApp and the recipe files.
In the MVApp, you have to specify which tool parameters and tool results should be available in MERLIC RTE mode. The specified parameters and results are called MVApp parameters and MVApp results. This is necessary so that the value of the corresponding tool parameters can be changed in MERLIC RTE mode and that the corresponding result values can be queried by your communication device in MERLIC RTE mode.
Setting up MERLIC recipe files is a mandatory task that needs to be done for each MVApp you want to use because they are required to load an MVApp in MERLIC RTE mode and they define how the MVApp parameters are parametrized.
Setting up the communication device or the corresponding plug-in, respectively, is also a mandatory step. MERLIC provides several plug-ins for different communication devices and technologies. There are basically two types of plug-ins to which we will refer as "communication plug-ins" and "I/O plug-ins". They differ in their configuration and restrictions. For more information, see Communication Plug-ins vs. I/O Plug-ins.
If you want to use MERLIC RTE on a Linux system, some additional setup steps are required to ensure that all required files are available and configured accordingly for Linux.
