Setting Up Remote Connections

MERLIC enables remote connections of MERLIC Frontends and the MERLIC RTE Setup to a MERLIC server, that is, to an instance of MERLIC RTE. This allows you to adjust the configuration of MERLIC applications in productive environments and to monitor the execution via remote MERLIC Frontends. Remote connections to MERLIC Creator instances are not supported because MERLIC Creator is designed for the development process of MERLIC Vision Apps (MVApps) and not for productive use.

After installing MERLIC, the default configuration allows only local connections for MERLIC components. To enable connections to remote systems, you have to adjust the configuration and allow remote connections.

You can set up MERLIC for remote connections in the configuration of the MERLIC Directory Agent. The Directory Agent tracks which MERLIC services are running on a system, for example, MERLIC RTE or MERLIC RTE Setup. If you want to use remote connections, you have to configure the Directory Agent on server side to expose these services on the network. MERLIC clients can then establish remote connections through the Directory Agent by querying the available services.

Basic Workflow

Configuring the Directory Agent for Remote Connections
  1. Activate the TCP/HTTP Server.
  2. Optionally, enable Transport Layer Security (TLS) for encrypted connections.

For more information, see Configuring the Directory Agent for Remote Connections.

Starting the MERLIC Server

Start an instance of MERLIC RTE on the host system. For more information, see Start MERLIC RTE.

Starting the MERLIC Client

You may start the MERLIC Frontend for monitoring purposes and the MERLIC RTE Setup for changing the configuration of communication plugins or the image acquisition. For more information, see Connecting the MERLIC Frontend to a Remote Server, Starting the MERLIC RTE Setup, and Connecting the MERLIC RTE Setup.
