MELSEC Communication Plug-in

This plug-in enables direct communication with Mitsubishi Electric's programmable controllers (PLCs) of the MELSEC series iQ‑F, iQ‑R, L, and Q. For the communication between the plug-in and the PLC, the MELSEC communication protocol (MC protocol) is used.

Once the plug-in is configured and a connection between the plug-in and the PLC is established, the protocol can be used by both the plug-in and the PLC to transmit commands, results, and further information. The configuration of the MELSEC Communication plug-in itself can be adjusted in the MERLIC RTE Setup. However, setting up the connection between MERLIC and the PLC requires the PLC engineering software GX Works GX Works is a PLC engineering software from Mitsubishi Electric. It can be used to configure, programm, and monitor PLCs of the Mitsubishi Electric MELSEC Series. from Mitsubishi Electric. Requirements and Limitations

When using the MELSEC Communication plug-in, the following requirements and limitations apply:

• Currently, the communication is only supported for Mitsubishi Electric PLCs of the following series:

  • MELSEC iQ-F Series
  • MELSEC iQ-R Series
  • MELSEC-L Series
  • MELSEC-Q Series
• The connected station, that is, the host station, is directly accessed. It is not supported to connect the PLC via network or multidrop.
• Currently, only data results can be transmitted via the MELSEC Communication plug-in. Image results are not available.
• Only the following MERLIC data types are supported by Mitsubishi Electric MELSEC Series PLCs.

  • WORD
  • DWORD
  • INT
  • DINT
  • REAL
  • LREAL
  • STRING[32] (strings are restricted to 32 characters instead of 80 as in MERLIC)
