September 28, 2026 | Press Release | MVTec, HALCON
As a special highlight at booth 8C56 in Hall 8, MVTec will use this prototype to demonstrate how combining MVTec’s HALCON machine vision software with various AI agents can improve the development of machine vision applications. Under the trade show motto “Pushing machine vision to the edge,” MVTec is showcasing the company’s strategic direction and demonstrating how modern AI technologies significantly increase efficiency in industrial image processing.
MVTec has been leveraging artificial intelligence in the form of deep learning methods since 2016. These methods support classification, inspection, and object recognition in image processing. The prototype’s new approach, however, begins one step earlier: during application development. “We’re integrating our software with AI agents. This makes our machine vision software, HALCON, easier and more up-to-date to use, while also increasing the efficiency of users’ development work,” explains Dr. Maximilian Lückenhaus, Director of Marketing + Business Development at MVTec.
With the new AI prototype, developers can describe their task in natural language and via images. The AI agents interpret this prompt and derive an optimal image processing workflow from it. They select the appropriate operators from the extensive HALCON library and automatically generate an executable image processing application in the new HDevelopEVO development environment.

The prototype illustrates two key advantages offered by the collaboration between MVTec software and AI agents: first, more efficient image processing development, and second, the knowledge base that the agents can access. This knowledge base is predefined and provided by MVTec and thanks to its comprehensive machine vision expertise, agents can make more informed decisions.
Visitors at VISION can experience a wide variety of scenarios live at the MVTec booth: Complex tasks such as barcode reading, matching, or optical character recognition (OCR) are selected via touchscreen and implemented in HDevelopEVO through prompts. The system immediately detects syntactic errors or logical gaps and feeds this information back to the AI agents, which iteratively improve their results.
Users benefit from shorter development times thanks to the AI Vision Solver. At the same time, the developer’s role is evolving – from manually programming individual steps to defining, evaluating, and optimizing the overall application. Additionally, human expert knowledge remains indispensable for evaluating the machine vision application. “Access to various AI agents reduces the development effort. However, AI does not assume full responsibility for the industrial application. The final assessment and decision remain with the user,” emphasizes Maximilian Lückenhaus.
Technologically, the prototype is based on HDevelopEVO, the next generation of MVTec HALCON’s integrated development environment (IDE). It is designed to implement machine vision projects in a more structured and transparent manner and is set to gradually replace the current IDE starting in 2027. At VISION, visitors will gain an exclusive glimpse into the current state of development of this cutting-edge IDE.
In addition to the AI Vision Solver, MVTec will present the full spectrum of modern machine vision technologies at VISION, such as the new releases of HALCON, MERLIC, and the Deep Learning Tool. The event will also focus on innovative topics such as accelerating AI algorithms through the integration of high-performance hardware accelerators.
