Key Challenges In Today’s Agriculture

  • Meeting global food demand while satisfying rising consumer expectations for quality and sustainability.
  • Protecting the environment and complying with increasingly strict governmental regulations.
  • Managing limited resources such as water and arable land under changing climate and weather conditions.
  • Handling high production and labor costs while compensating for a shortage of skilled workers.

How MVTec software enables smart agriculture solutions

MVTec’s flexible, high-performance software architecture accelerates the development of agricultural automation solutions. Developers can rapidly implement machine vision applications for detection, classification, measurement, and robot guidance. This shortens time to market, reduces engineering costs, and enables manufacturers and integrators to adapt quickly to new crops, equipment, and regulations.

Efficient Plant Protection
Best-Practice Solution With MVTec Software

Plant protection is essential to ensure high yields and consistent quality. At the same time, stricter regulations and environmental concerns require more targeted and efficient use of crop protection products. Machine vision enables selective spraying by distinguishing crops from weeds in real time.

In a typical setup, an industrial multispectral camera is mounted on a sprayer and captures images of the field. The camera sends the data to an embedded device running MVTec machine vision software. Deep-learning-based object detection identifies weeds between crops and triggers precise herbicide application only where needed.

Targeted application reduces environmental impact.
Crop protection products and resources are used cost-efficiently.
High yields and quality – aligned with environmental regulations and consumer expectations.

Greenhouse Automation
Automated monitoring & harvesting with MVTec software

Greenhouse automation with machine vision helps meet growing demand for high-quality produce while maintaining strict hygiene and food safety standards. Automated processes also compensate for labor shortages and support sustainable, continuous production.

In a greenhouse harvesting scenario, a robot monitors and harvests crops such as peppers. A 3D stereo camera generates a 3D point cloud of the plant. Based on this data, MVTec software reconstructs the 3D scene, locates individual fruits, and uses Deep Learning to classify ripeness and plant health. The software then calculates optimal gripping and cutting points so the robot can harvest precisely.

Precise harvest timing ensures optimal product quality.
High system availability reduces personnel bottlenecks.
Reliable monitoring enables early disease detection and reduces harmful substances.
